The incident took place in the tunnel at Benfica’s Estádio da Luz ground in December 2009, with Hulk and team-mate Cristian Sapunaru receiving suspensions for their part in the incident.
Now it seems the five players, including fellow Brazilian Helton and the Uruguayans Fucile and Cristian Rodriguez are set to face criminal charges for “deliberately, knowingly and freely harassing and physically abusing the victims.”
Under Portuguese law, in Article 143 of the penal code, the players could now face a jail-term of maximum three years, although Sapunaru, if found guily, is facing a longer term due to another separate incident.
