Online gambling has helped football punters cast the net further afield in the ongoing race to land a big priced winner and steady profit from sports betting. Many who enjoy a casual weekend flutter on the beautiful game prefer to stick to what they know, gambling on domestic fixtures, Champions League games and World Cup ties, but in doing so they are missing out on a world of value.

The current schedule means there’s often at least one big match shown live every day, with games kicking off around the globe on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Champions League taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday, then Europe League filling in the Thursday gap.

Look out-with your comfort zone and you’ll discover a treasure chest of riches waiting to be discovered from the top leagues on planet football. One division teeming with value and excitement is the Brazilian Serie A and there are a list of brands offering odds on the division, but it is often overlooked and that’s a real shame for those who enjoy beating the bookies.

Do your homework on the fixtures, taking the time to put in a bit of research, and you’ll be well on your way to being one step ahead of the traders who, themselves, don’t know an awful lot about the league.

If you understand the inner workings of a bookmakers, you’ll know they employ one team of traders to price up all football matches. Often, they are experts of the major leagues, with an interest in a few niche divisions, but the firm doesn’t take enough money to warrant paying a Brazilian football expert.

If they did, they’d then have to bring in an expert on Chile, USA, Macedonia, where does it stop? That means you are pitting your wits against a trader with little more than a passing interest. Put in the legwork and it’ll pay.

Bets you can place

You can bet on each of the individual league matches, either as a single or as part of an accumulator and there’s lots to take your fancy, almost as many markets as you would expect to find on the more popular divisions, like Premier League, Ligue 1, Bundesliga and La Liga. There’s so much on offer here, including a range of prices and bets, it’s always wise to take the time to compare the best offers from leading betting sites that currently enable betting on the league, while the future domestic gambling issue is still shaping up.

Pick which side you think will win each of the matches quoted on the fixture list, or delve a bit deeper into the betting and have your say on the likes of first goal scorer, total goals, total cards, how many corners will be given, handicap betting, correct score, half-time/full-time, draw no bet, and plenty more besides. There really is something for everyone.

One ever popular way to bet on the Brazilian Serie A is the both teams to score coupon and this is another market where research pays off. Check the goals scored and conceded columns of each of the teams involved, flick through past meetings and check team news, then make your stake work hard on your behalf, investing on yes both teams will score or no both teams won’t score. These type of bets often carry low to moderate odds, but they work well in multiples and aren’t the most difficult to land.

As well as match betting you can also make predictions on the outright markets, such as which team will win the league, who will be relegated and a number of pre-determined matches, pitting one team against a main rival, backing which will finish highest.

How the league works

The Serie A is at the top of Brazil’s professional football structure and is made up of 20 teams. Running from May to December, each team plays a total of 38 games, matching each of the 19 other members twice, once at home and once away. This is similar to the format of the English Premier League.

As well as prizes for the top performing sides, including the championship title for the club with the highest number of points after 38 games and qualification to the Copa Libertadores for the best six, there’s also the threat of relegation for those finishing in the bottom-four, replaced by the top-four from Serie B.

At the conclusion of the 2018 season we saw Palmeiras crowned champions and that was achieved thanks to a record of 23 wins, 11 draws and just four defeats, leaving them on 80 points, at least eight better than the chasing pack. That was the club’s 10th league title.

Flamengo finished best of the rest on 72 points, with Internacional making up the major places in third on 69 points after winning only one of their last four outings. At the bottom of the pile we lost Sport, America Mineiro, Vitoria and Parana to Serie B.

Will Palmeiras come back for more and do the double, swooping on their 11th title, or will we see a challenger to the throne emerge? Which team will secure a top four or top six finish, who’s destined for relegation and which of the teams promoted from Serie B will perform best? These bets often carry attractive odds and give you a long-running interest over the course of the season.
