Cruzeiro fired coach Nicolás Larcamón and his entire coaching staff less than four months after taking office. The decision was made after losing the Mineiro Championship final against its classic rival, Atlético Mineiro.

“We appreciate your commitment in the day-to-day life of Cruzeiro and we wish you success in your future projects,” the club said in a brief statement posted on its social networks. Although he led the team to the final of the Minas Gerais state tournament, the 5-3 aggregate defeat against Galo generated anger among supporters.

That crisis between the 39-year-old Argentine coach and the fans began on February 21 with the elimination of the Belo Horizonte team from the first phase of the Copa do Brasil. That day they surprisingly fell 2-0 against Sousa, from the fourth division, with the two goals at the end of the match.

Cruzeiro is left without a coach in full competition

Larcamón’s time at the club owned by former star Ronaldo Nazário was short-lived. After a successful time at Club León in Mexico, he arrived as the new coach on December 20 and was only able to coach 14 games, in which he finished with seven wins, four draws and three losses.

His dismissal comes at a time when the institution is in full competition. On Thursday the 11th they will play at home against Alianza Petrolera (Colombia) in their second match of the group stage of the Copa Sudamericana. In his debut, he drew goalless in his visit to the Catholic University (Ecuador).

Furthermore, on Sunday, April 14, they will begin their journey in the Brasileirão against Botafogo, also at the Mineirão stadium.
