Of the 26 players called up by Dorival Júnior for the March friendlies against England and Spain, eleven have already won titles with Brazil’s youth teams and are now looking to increase their success wearing the Yellow Jersey with the Senior National Team.

On Saturday (23), Brazil defeated England 1-0 at Wembley, with a goal from Endrick. On Tuesday (26), the team will face Spain, concluding the series of two friendlies against European opponents.

The list of champions in the youth teams includes Danilo, Yan Couto, Wendell, Beraldo, Bruno Guimarães, Douglas Luiz, Lucas Paquetá, Endrick, Richarlison, Savinho, and Vinicius Júnior.

Throughout this call-up, the coach was forced to cut players due to injuries. If this had not happened, there would have been another four players who had lifted trophies with Brazil’s youth teams: Ederson, champion of the Toulon Tournament in 2014; Gabriel Martinelli, Olympic gold medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games; Casemiro, champion of the South American U-17 Championship in 2009, the South American U-20 Championship, and the FIFA U-20 World Cup, both in 2011; and Marquinhos, champion of the South American U-17 Championship in 2011, the Toulon Tournament in 2014, and Olympic gold medalist at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games.

Olympic Games

Dorival Júnior’s team has three gold medalists from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games: Richarlison, Bruno Guimarães, and Douglas Luiz. The trio started in the campaign that led to the second Olympic title in Japan.

The other medalist among those called up by Dorival Júnior is Danilo, who won silver at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

FIFA U-20 World Cup

The most experienced player in Dorival’s squad, Danilo is a U-20 World Cup champion with Brazil. In Colombia, he was part of a team of great promises who maintained their prominence and reached the Senior National Team, such as Casemiro, Alex Sandro, Philippe Coutinho, and Oscar.

FIFA U-17 World Cup

In an edition hosted in Brazil, Yan Couto was part of the U-17 World Cup triumph. The tournament was filled with thrilling moments, especially in the semifinal against France and in the final against Mexico, which resulted in Brazil’s fourth title in the competition.

South American U-20 Championship

Danilo and Savinho are South American U-20 champions. The right-back lifted the trophy in 2011, alongside a generation starred by Casemiro, Alex Sandro, Lucas Moura, Oscar, and Neymar. While the forward traveled with the delegation to Colombia, the tournament’s host country, he got injured before the first match.

South American U-15 Championship

Among the 26 called up players, Vinicius Júnior and Savinho are the youngest to be champions with the Brazilian National Team, winning the South American U-15 Championship. Coincidentally, both victories came through penalty shootouts.

Vini made history in 2015 against Uruguay after a 5-4 victory on penalties. Savinho secured the title in 2019 in the final against Argentina, won by 5-3.

Montaigu Tournament

In 2022, Brazil ended a 38-year drought without winning the Montaigu Tournament in France. At 15 years old, Endrick was the standout player in the U-17 competition and won awards for best player and top scorer of the traditional tournament.

Toulon Tournament

Organized since 1967, the tournament is traditional in the U-21 calendar and is held in Toulon, France. Brazil has won the championship nine times. From the last two victories, the team has one representative each who is now part of the Senior National Team: left-back Wendell in 2014 and midfielder Douglas Luiz in 2019.

International U-20 Tournament

Held in 2022 in Espírito Santo, the competition served as preparation for the following year’s South American U-20 Championship, also won by Brazil. Beraldo was one of those called up for the tournament which also featured Uruguay, Paraguay, and Ecuador.

Four-Nation Tournament

Douglas Luiz and Lucas Paquetá won the Four-Nation Tournament in 2016, a U-20 competition held in Chile that included Uruguay and Ecuador besides the hosts. Rogério Micale was the coach during the competition.
