Considered one of the main players in women’s football in the country, Formiga continues to stir up the backstage of the Brazilian National Team. Even after bidding farewell to the field in the yellow jersey in 2021, the 44-year-old midfielder is still keeping an eye on the movements within the four lines.

Representing the Brazilian National Team since 1995, Formiga took to the field 233 times during her 26 years playing for the Canarinho Team. In total, the former player scored 37 goals, also winning three gold medals at the Pan American Games (2003, 2007, and 2015).

In an interview with “Fala Tudo com Murilo Dias,” Formiga opened up to talk about Pia Sundhage. Describing how the work relationship was with the Swedish coach, the former national team player stated that there was no dialogue between the players and the coach.

“The situation of listening, I’ll be honest, was a flaw she had. If the athletes ask questions, you have to listen. There was no dialogue. Everything she said was right. If you lose the locker room… Forget it!”

Experiencing highs and lows with Brazil, Pia Sundhage ended her journey after the failure during the 2023 World Cup. Bidding farewell to the competition prematurely, still in the group stage, the Swedish coach could not withstand the pressure in the position and ended up being dismissed by the CBF.

Taking over as Brazil’s head coach in 2019, Pia left her position after only 57 matches played, with 34 wins, 13 draws, and 10 losses during the cycle leading up to the 2023 World Cup. It is worth noting that the Swedish coach’s contract was valid until August of that year.

Winning the Women’s Copa America in 2022, Pia Sundhage secured a spot for the Brazilian National Team at the Paris Olympics. However, despite the title, the Swedish coach could not replicate the good performance in other competitions, accumulating some poor performances.
