One of the great names in Palmeiras’ history, former player Alex, is preparing to become one of the top coaches in Brazilian football.

Recently, Alex worked in the youth categories of São Paulo but did not have much success in Cotia. After his first challenge as a professional coach, the former midfielder had a brief stint at Avaí.

In an interview with the channel “Benja Me Mucho,” the former player stated that if he received an invitation from Corinthians, he would accept to work for the team. Alex is an idol at Palmeiras, the club where he won the Libertadores in 1999.

“If I had the opportunity (to coach Corinthians), yes. That’s what I just said. I was never a Palmeiras fan as a child. I was for five years. I have a spectacular affection for Palmeiras. The same goes for Cruzeiro (regarding Atlético). I wasn’t a Cruzeiro fan in the stands. If Corinthians and Palmeiras play, and I have friends at Palmeiras, there’s no way I could be sad,” revealed Alex, currently unemployed.

Despite not caring much about the rivalry between the São Paulo teams (Palmeiras and Corinthians) and the Minas Gerais teams (Cruzeiro and Atlético-MG), Alex made it clear that there is only one club in Brazil where he wouldn’t work. In this case, Athletico-PR, due to his relationship with Coritiba.

At the beginning of last year, Alex was released from Avaí after only 18 games at the club. During his time there, there were six wins, four draws, and eight losses. Before that, he had worked with São Paulo’s under-20 team.

In Florianópolis, Avaí, under Alex’s guidance, was eliminated by Criciúma in the Catarinense Championship and by Retrô-PE in the initial phase of the Copa do Brasil.

In recent months, the former player spent time at Toca da Raposa II in Belo Horizonte, observing the work of the staff there (at that time with Portuguese coach Pepa) and did a brief internship with Abel Ferreira at Palmeiras.
