“We have just received a report from Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar. From a pre-list made by the Brazilian national team coaching staff with 50 names, 13 of them were already sidelined due to injuries at their clubs. Unfortunately, we have also lost Casemiro,” said Dorival to the official CBF channels.

“Therefore, Pepê from Porto, a forward by trade and currently playing as a midfielder, is called up,” added the coach.
The replacement

Pepê is 27 years old and was called up to defend the Brazilian national team for the second time. He had previously been called up by coach Fernando Diniz for the matches against Colombia and Argentina last year, for the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

Problems for Dorival

Casemiro was the fourth player cut by the Brazilian national team coaching staff. Other players removed from the list were: Ederson, Marquinhos, and Gabriel Martinelli. Coach Dorival Júnior called up Léo Jardim, Fabrício Bruno, and Galeno.
