Liverpool’s Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva has been impressed by the recent form of compatriot Roberto Firmino for Liverpool and is backing his teammate to continue the form that has seen him land three goals in his last three games.

Firmino scored against Manchester United at Anfield on Thursday night and Lucas enthused, "He feels very confident and you can see in every game he is a threat. He looks like he’s going to score in every game.

"I hope it stays like that. He feels very happy here, he’s very settled and his family is doing well. There is no reason for him to not perform. I think he has been a big player for us already."

Lucas gave an update on his own injury situation, having pulled a muscle in Liverpool’s Capital One Cup Final defeat to Manchester City last month, "I’m progressing very well," he said. "I’m really happy with the way it’s going.

"I’m aiming that after the international break I’ll be close to coming back and hopefully playing a big part in the last part of the season." And the Brazilian says that the Europa League represents the Reds’ best chance of glory this season.

"Everything the manager has been asking us in the last few months, we are starting to do every week. Hopefully it will be a good end to the season for us.

"[United] still have a chance, of course. It’s a good result for us but we now have to go away and perform again. If we approach it in the same way we did the last game against them, I think we have a big chance to go through.

"Hopefully, we’ll get to the final of this tournament because I think it’s a really important one for us."
