Vasco have promoted their 17-year-old talent Mateus Vital “Pet” to the professionals, and will follow as an option in the final stretch of the Brazilian Championship.
The youngster was called up to the professionals by coach Jorginho, and was on the bench in Vasco’s last two games against Grêmio and Fluminense. His idol and Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho debuted at the same age in Vasco, and left for Inter Milan after scoring 5 goals in 44 games. Mateus told the club’s website: “Being called up was a surprise to me, I did not expect. I was very happy because a part of my dream was realized. This is the beginning of many achievements. I feel privileged to be following in the footsteps of my idol Coutinho. I hope to honor this shirt as much as he did. This achievement will be a milestone in my life.”
