Reports in Brazil claims that the former São Paulo president Carlos Miguel Aidar refused to exchange Rodrigo Caio and Michel Bastos for Alexandre Pato, about 40 days before his resignation.
According to UOL Esporte, with the approval of Corinthians president Roberto de Andrade, the member of the deliberative council called Carlos Miguel Aidar to suggest the deal. The São Paulo president responded with a counter-proposal that he would exchange Rodrigo Caio for Alexandre Pato and another €5 million. Atlético Madrid had came close to paying €15m for the defensive midfielder last summer, so Aidar didn’t change his stance and believed the player was worth that fee. He also reminded that the fee Corinthians wanted for Alexandre Pato was €10m, and hence asked Timão to pay a €5m fee if they’re to exchange the two players. This was rejected by Corinthians who insisted on the original proposal, and Aidar, despite being against the idea, told that he will call back after consulting the football department. At the moment, the Corinthians board has no interest in this deal as they strongly believe in the sale of Pato to a foreign club, probably to England.
