Bayern Munich full-back Rafinha, who was called up by Dunga for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Venezuela, has turned down the chance to play for Brazil.
The Brazilian football federation released a statement confirming the will of the player, and Rafinha, living in Germany for over ten years, has expressed his desire to opt for the German national team. There has been rumors that Rafinha was in the plans of German coach Joachim Löw following the retirement of Philipp Lahm after winning the World Cup in Brazil last year. The 30-year-old hasn’t played any official games for the Brazilian national team, as his only appearances were in friendlies and during the 2008 Olympic Games. He said: “I’m not being called up regularly, and I’m not one of the main options in my position considering there are other professionals in front of me.”
