It has been one of the most likely transfers all summer and last night Jose Mourinho all but confirmed that Filipe Luís will leave Chelsea to move back to Atletico Madrid.
The 29 year old left back joined Chelsea for almost £16 million a year ago but struggled to settle in England. He made 24 appearances in all competitions and picked up a league winners medal but couldn’t find any consistency.
“Right now we are looking for a left back because I think we will sell Filipe Luís today or tomorrow,” Mourinho confirmed. “We need to go on the market, we must find a club that accepts an offer by August 31, and we will look for a left back. For other positions we have no room.”
Luís will be happy to return to Atletico Madrid where he played a key part in their La Liga triumph the season before last.
