Brazil experienced a night they would rather forget as their Copa America campaign suffered a blow with a narrow 1-0 defeat against Colombia.

The Seleção paid the price for a poor first half in which Colombia dominated with an energetic and powerful display. Brazil held the opposition at bay until ten minutes from half time when a loose ball in the box was swept home by Jeison Murillo.

Neymar almost equalised just before the break when his header was saved by Ospina from six yards. The ball rebounded into his hand which resulted in a harsh yellow card and the 23 year old was visibly frustrated with the decision.

Brazil did improve after the break and Roberto Firmino missed a glorious chance when he scooped the ball over the bar from 12 yards with the goal at his mercy.

The final whistle sparked celebrations in the Colombia camp but scenes soon turned ugly when Neymar let his frustration boil over. The Seleção captain booted the ball at Pablo Armero and in the following melee seemed to aim a headbutt at Murillo. Neymar was promptly shown a red card along with Colombia forward Carlos Bacca.

It remains to be seen how long Neymar will be suspended for but it is likely to be two matches. Brazil now go into their final group game against Venezuela knowing that a loss could knock them out of the Copa America at the first hurdle.
