The Brazilian drilled a shot into the bottom corner in the 36th minute to give the Catalan club a two-goal advantage.

The 22-year-old’s first-time strike came just 78 seconds after fellow South American Lionel Messi had given Barcelona the lead.

Messi and Neymar were a constant threat to Rayo thoughout and Luis Enrique’s side could have won by a larger scoreline.

Brazilian Dani Alves played the whole match and helped contribute towards a new La Liga record as by keeping a clean sheet for a seventh successive game, Barca broke the previous domestic record in Spain.

For Neymar, who was substituted ten minutes from time, his goal keeps up his excellent start to the new campaign.

In just four La Liga starts, the Brazilian has seven league goals already whilst his seasonal tally with the Catalan club to eight goals in eight games.

The former Santos ace will hope to keep up his good scoring record when he links up with the Brazilian national team next week.
