Brazil captain Thiago Silva is looking for the host nation to beat Netherlands this evening in the third/fourth place play-off match and not end the 2014 World Cup like they finished the previous tournament.
Back in 2010, Brazil were knocked out in the quarter-finals by the Dutch – losing 2-1 and the PSG defender wants Luiz Felipe Scolari’s team to end this tournament with a win.
Though the wounds from Tuesday’s 7-1 defeat to Germany are still fresh, Silva has insisted a result like that won’t happen for another 100 years.
Goal.com quoted the Brazil skipper, he said: “We have the same motivation as always.
“We have to turn the page. Life goes on. We lost to Netherlands in the 2010 World Cup, so I wouldn’t like to finish like that again.
“I wasn’t on the pitch, but I’m part of this team – I’m the captain.
“It’s something that won’t happen again (the Germany defeat) in the next 100 years. It was six minutes of darkness which led to a tragic ending for us.”
Silva addressed the media alongside Brazil head coach Scolari and insisted it isn’t the time to ‘crucify’ him.
He concluded: “This is not the time to crucify him. We are together. When the team gets it wrong, we all get it wrong.”
Silva and his team mates will hope Brazil start to right the wrongs this evening in Brasilia.
