Fluminense escaped the embarrassment of an early exit from the Copa do Brasil by thumping Horizon 5-0 in the second leg of their tie, thus eradicating the 3-0 reverse in the opening fixture.

A frankly shocking first leg of the tie was forgotten about as the side from Rio de Janeiro, who have won the trophy only once, in 2007, won their final game before the start of the Campeonato Brasileiro next Saturday.

The goals came from Dario Conca, defender Gum and Rafael Sobis before half time and Wagner and Fred before the 90 minutes was up.

The result is a timely boost to Fluminense, who will be hoping to have a stronger season than in 2013, when their now-expectant fans were forced to see their team slump to a 17th place finish- only avoiding a relegation due to the controversial Portuguesa points-docking over fielding an ineligible player.
