Real Madrid defender Marcelo has suffered an injury scare after being forced to exit his teams La Liga match in the first half against Villarreal.

The Brazilian was substituted in the 18th minute of the match at the Bernabéu with his side already 1-0 up.

AS English reported that the left-back was substituted because of a back problem.

They believe he was injured after challenging for the ball and then in the follow through, he stumbled and fell over, injuring his lower back in the process.

Luiz Felipe Scolari is due to announce his Brazil squad for the friendly against South Africa on Tuesday and he’ll be anxiously awaiting the diagnosis of Marcelo’s injury.

Although, initial reports have suggested the injury isn’t a serious one, Madrid would like to have him back soon. We now wait to find out the severity of Marcelo’s back problem.

Even though Madrid didn’t miss him too much today, as they managed to earn a 4-2 win which moved them to the top of La Liga, they’ll hope to have the 25-year-old back with matches against Atlético Madrid and Schalke coming up.
