Hector Scocco, the father of Internacional forward Ignacio Scocco, has confirmed his son is likely to join Sunderland.

The 28 year-old has struggled to settle in Porto Alegre since arriving from Al Ain for €4.25 million in July and is expected to be sold this month.

Hector Scocco admits a return to Argentina with River Plate or Newell’s Old Boys would have been an option, but only Sunderland can match Internacional’s demands.

“The most likely today is that [Scocco] joins Sunderland," he told Diario Ole. “River and Newell"s asked for him but Internacional"s demands are too high and they don"t want to loan him out.

“That"s understandable as they want to recoup the investment they made and no club in Argentina can afford what they want.

"[Sunderland manager Gustavo] Poyet told him what he wants and that he is very interested that Scocco goes [to Sunderland]."

Scocco scored three goals in 17 appearances, as Internacional finished just two points above the relegation zone in last year’s Brasileirão.
