Manchester United defender Rafael narrowly avoided the recent fate of his brother in tonight’s League Cup Semi Final defeat against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

The 23 year-old twin of Fabio received a deserved yellow card for remonstrating a penalty decision in first half injury-time and was arguably lucky not to receive his marching orders for a needless and late challenge on Fabio Borini.

With Felipao looking over his shoulder with Rio in mind, there would be hope that the twice-capped United right-back would be putting in performances of power and poise as opposed to petulance.

The Manchester club ended up losing the game, the first leg of the League Cup Semi Final, 2-1, to record their third straight loss.
