PSG defender Maxwell has admitted that he was taken by surprise at his call up to the Seleção squad to face Switzerland in a friendly.

The Brazilian was delighted at being given the opportunity to impress Luiz Felipe Scolari and says he will grab it with both hands.

“I am very happy, I did not really expect it, it was a real surprise but a very pleasant one. I can share this joy with my family,” Maxwell told Sportv.

“I am very motivated by this meeting. I do not see another way other than to understand that this selection gives me the chance to give everything and to seize this opportunity that is offered to me. Hopefully I can play and give my best. “

Scolari has picked all 11 of his supposed first choice team including Barcelona’s new signing Neymar despite the fact that most have only just returned from a belated holiday for pre-season training at their European clubs.

The game will take place at FC Basel’s Jakob Park stadium on August 14 and will be followed in September by friendlies with Australia and Portugal as Scolari begins final preparations in the run up to next year’s World Cup.
