Kaká has been left out of Real Madrid’s squad to face Lyon as Carlo Ancelotti reportedly wants him on a specified training programme.

The Brazil international was one of three notable exclusions from Madrid’s party travelling out to face the Ligue 1 side in a pre-season friendly.

Whilst Gonzalo Higuain has flown out to Italy to complete a move to Napoli and Fabio Coentrao’s absence is due to personal reasons, it was initially unclear why the 31-year-old was absent, having played in Sunday’s 6-0 win at Bournemouth.

However, AS claim that new coach Ancelotti is keen for the playmaker to regain full fitness and that staying at Valdebebas this week instead would help him achieve this, as reported on Football Espana.

Kaká has struggled for form in recent seasons and only managed 994 minutes spread across 19 league games under Jose Mourinho last season.

He had been strongly linked with an exit from the Santiago Bernabeu since January, but has since stated his desire to stay and play under his former Milan coach.
