Barcelona defender Carles Puyol thinks Thiago Silva would be a great signing for the club, after injuries last season exposed a need to strengthen in that position.

The 35-year-old believes the PSG defender could be the man to shore up the Barcelona defence if he was to leave the French club.

The Seleção captain, 28, who moved to the French capital last season from AC Milan, has been heavily linked with the Blaugrana despite having four years remaining on his contract, reports Goal.com.

The Spanish champions suffered from a lack of quality in the heart of their defence in the last campaign following injuries and suspensions to key players, but Puyol believes some of these issues can be amended if the club sign the Brazilian.

He told reporters: “The centre of defence is a position hit hard by injuries.

“Thiago is one of the best centre-backs in the world and I think he would adapt well to Barcelona.”
