Neymar’s last game for Santos broke box office records for a football match in Brazil, raking in almost R$ 7 milliion (£2.25m).

Over 60,000 fans packed into the Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha in Brasília, as Santos took on Flamengo in the first round of the new Brasileirão season.

The stadium has been renovated in time to host matches in the Confederations Cup, which starts this summer on June 15, and its expanded capacity comes in at just over 70,000.

As well as hosting matches in the 2014 World Cup, the stadium will also be used for the football tournament in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The high profile departure of Neymar to Barcelona didn’t have a fairytale ending, as the match finished 0-0.

However, the fans who were lucky enough to get tickets will no doubt look back on the match in years to come and be proud to say they were there.
