Atlético Mineiro’s young star Bernard has admitted that he has been underperforming lately, as his team were beaten 1-2 by Coritiba in their Brazilian national league debut.

Bernard was subbed off again yesterday as he failed to impress although he is fully recovered from injuries.

He talked to reporters after the game, Bernard said: “There have been some games where I could not perform as well as usual, I don’t have any problem in the shoulder, but I still feel insecure.

I have been feeding well, sleeping and training well, being careful, all to play like the fans expect. I know that will happen soon.”

Atlético Mineiro’s manager Cuca believes this is the time o support Bernard, not criticize him, he said: “It’s natural he loses ground, especially since he was injured. He hurt his shoulder when he was in his best moment, after scoring a hat-trick in Argentina.

He lost that great form, and he needs to be confident again. He is a 20-year old kid, We have to help give him confidence. He needs to do as simple as possible at the moment, use his speed.”
