Botafogo’s Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf is the first choice to manage Italian team AC Milan if they fail to qualify to the European Champions League, according to reports in Italian press.

Gazzeta dello Sport claims that Milan’s owner Silvio Berlusconi is seriously considering the Dutchman as a replacement for current manager Massimiliano Allegri.

As a former Milan player, he is deemed an ideal option to implement changes in the team’s playing style and mentality. Donadoni and Van Basten are also deemed potential options to replace Allegri.

Seedorf is under contract with Botafogo until June 2014 and plans to implement projects in Brazil for the 2014 World Cup.

As one of the team’s best and most popular players, it remains to be seen if Botafogo would be happy to lose him, and if he would be willing to retire earlier than originally planned.

Seedorf scored a goal yesterday as Botafogo beat Resende 5-0 to advance to Rio de Janeiro’s second turn final.
