São Paulo’s manager Ney Franco has been given a vote of confidence by the club’s board, as rumors he might be sacked keep increasing following another poor result.

The Tricolor were beaten 0-1 at home by XV de Piracicaba, in their last game before the decisive Libertadores match against Atlético Mineiro.

São Paulo’s vice-president João Paulo de Jesus Lopes told press: “we don’t do that (change managers) here. It’s not the manager’s fault. He has been doing a good since he was hired in the second semester of 2012.”

He talked about the club’s poor form: “we are not very exciting, but neither are the other teams, it takes time for São Paulo to impress in the first semester, but the team fly in the second semester.”

São Paulo face Atlético Mineiro on Wednesday needing a win to have a chance to advance to the Copa Libertadores’ knockout stage, they also need to hope Arsenal de Sarandí beat The Strongest.
