Corinthians coach Tite has praised left-back Igor after the 20-year-old starred in his side’s 0-0 away draw with Santos in the Campeonato Paulista.

Igor, who was integrated into the first-team setup this season, showed great composure throughout to help keep the scores level and ensure that his team did not fall short in one of the first derby fixtures of 2013.

Tite, who also reserved special praise for recently signed centre-back Gil, believes that the youngster’s showing is vindication for the club’s recent faith and investment in its academy setup.

“I should congratulate the Corinthians youth academy and the boy,” he told reporters. “I told him that it would be difficult but he played with ease. He played well.

“Our academy has formed another player, the kid had a great game.”

Former Valenciennes defender Gil was widely singled out by observers post-match for what was a very assured display, having kept Santos superstar comfortably at bay for the entire duration of the clash at the Morumbi.
