Internacional director Marcelo Medeiros has written off the possibility of striker Leandro Damião joining Tottenham in January, with the English club’s bid not meeting Internacional’s requirements.

Damião, 23, has been a long-term transfer target for Tottenham and the club returned for his services once more on Thursday afternoon, but failed to agree terms with the Porto Alegre side.

It now appears that any possibility of a transfer is now delayed until the summer, with Spurs’ André Villas-Boas a known admirer of the Seleção star.

“Damião will not leave,” Madeiros told reporters from Globo Esporte. “The offer was below what we wanted. Is there a possibility he will leave later? Of course it’s possible. Lucas to PSG, for example, was a hell of a deal.”

Tottenham are currently looking to add late striking options to their squad as they look to secure a top four Premier League finish and the Champions League qualification that will entail.

With just Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor, currently at the Africa Cup of Nations, as recognised strikers on the books, Villas-Boas is hopeful to add one more option ahead of Thursday night’s deadline.
