Fluminense striker Fred has revealed this year has been the best of his career after proving his international worth with a goal for Brazil against Argentina last night.
The 29-year-old is the leading Brasileirão goalscorer with just two games remaining, having netted 19 times this season, and recently earned a recall from Mano Menezes.
Fred had been snubbed by Menezes on numerous occasions during 2012, despite inspiring Fluminense to the league title, but finally had chance to prove himself in a Brazil shirt last night.
The former Lyon striker helped the Seleção retain their Superclassico title against Argentina by equalising with his first real chance of the game and netting his penalty in the shootout.
Fred said: “This is a great year for me. I want to stay at this level until the end of my career.
“This is undoubtedly the best year of my career. I won the title in Rio, the Brazilian championship and now I’m with the Brazil squad. It really is a special year for me.”
Fred will also be awarded the league’s top goalscorer award at the end of the season, unless São Paulo’s Luís Fabiano, who has scored 17, manages to overtake him.
