Goals from Ortíz, Rentería and Ochoa condemned Palmeiras to a 4-3 aggregate loss after the Colombians overcame a 3-1 defeat in the first leg.
But it was back to business for Palmeiras coach Gilson Kleina as his side turn their attention back to the Brasileirão: “Right now, this game in the Copa Sudamericana did more harm than favour. The opponent were superior. The truth is this, it is finished.”
The coach spoke of the relegation battle ahead: “Regardless of other results, we always do our best. It’s no use if Grêmio do their part and we don’t do ours.
“We’ve got a few players back, with Mauricio Ramos, Henry, Wesley, Marcos Assunção. Juninho returned on Tuesday, we’ll have John Denoni. We have to make our results.”
Palmeiras will face Internacional on Saturday as they renew their relegation battle with six games left to play in the Brasileirão.
