Corinthians coach Tite has urged Paulinho to turn down a call up for the Seleção in favour of the Club World Cup.

The coach claimed the midfielder should turn down the chance to play in the Superclássico das Américas against Argentina: “It is an understandable sentiment for any player. I encourage all players to have the ambition to get into the Seleção, but it is another thing when it is so inconvenient for Corinthians.”

Paulinho was questioned about the decision earlier this week: “It’s very difficult to be called up and we must seize the opportunity.

“Of course this can hurt the coaching staff and the board, but it is an opportunity for us players. Let us decide, we cannot let go of the opportunity.”

Corinthians’ preparations for the Club World Cup is set to clash with the Superclássico derby against Argentina which will be held on November 21.

The club will be flying out to Japan in the first week of December.
