Iraq boss Zico, who won 72 caps with Brazil, told Globoesporte: “I’ve always been in favour of the return of Kaka. Mano was the coach who had the most difficulty in selection.”

The coach claimed that his counterpart Menezes was unlucky not to have inherited a legacy from the 2010 World Cup:

“Of all the coaches, he was the only one who had no legacy. The 1998 took a bit for 2002. The 2002 took a bit for 2006. The 2006 took a bit for 2010.

“But from 2010 to 2014, ended. So these guys, Kaka, Robinho, Luis Fabiano, Lucio, Maicon, Julio Cesar, all of them which were at their peak. And there’s nobody left.

“He tried once with Kaka, but did not continue. It’s not easy if you lose a backbone and have to make another. The return of Kaka will be very good.”

Zico, who spent most of his playing career with Flamengo, was speaking ahead of Brazil’s fixture against Iraq tonight which kicks off at 7.30pm UK time.
