Corinthians are trying to track down a Scottish tourist who was threatened by rival fans after his Celtic shirt was mistaken for that of rivals Palmeiras.

Corinthians’ bosses have launched a public appeal to find the tourist so they can offer him an apology and make amends by offering him a club shirt, a tour of the stadium and introduce him to some of their star players.

Marketing director Ivan Marques said: “It’s obvious he had no idea of the rivalry between Corinthians and Palmeiras and ended up being threatened.

“We want to show him he is welcome back here. If he is still in Brazil and responds to our appeal, we will invite him to meet the manager and the players.”

The Brazilian press have published pictures of the balding Scot being dragged away by armed officers.

This incident comes shortly after a teenage girl was threatened by Coritiba fans when São Paulo’s Lucas Moura handed her his shirt after the match.
