Botafogo’s coach Oswaldo de Olivieira has praised Fred’s performance in their 1-0 defeat to Fluminense comparing him to Brazilian great Romario.
The coach told reporters: “Fred is admirable, besides the ability, he has a great intelligence in the area, which, at times, can be compared to Romario.”
The Botafogo coach praised his team’s performance after they outplayed the league leaders for much of the game: “I prepared for this game for weeks to try to neutralize Fluminense. Somehow we managed, especially in the first half.”
But he also lamented missed chances: “We created opportunities to get out in front, but we did not do that.”
Botafogo were made to pay for their missed chances as Fred struck to claim his 14th goal of the season.
Fluminense’s victory over Botafogo in the Brasileirão means they will stay top of the league after 28 games.
Botafogo, meanwhile, lie in 7th place after the defeat.
