Neymar has expressed his disappointment at the lack of support shown by Brazilian fans during the Seleção’s narrow win over South Africa on Friday.

Brazil eventually overcame the Bafana thanks to a late goal from substitute Hulk, who has also criticised the home fans inside the Morumbi Stadium.

Neymar has now voiced his dismay with the events during the friendly victory, where the Seleção were booed at both half and full-time.

He said: “We all know that we did not put in a great performance, but we still managed to win the game. I was very disappointed that the fans were booing us.

“I do not ask the fans to like me, but I ask them to cheer for the national team.”

The Santos forward also believes that the fans’ attitude was as partially down to the presence of large groups of supporters from rival teams in the crowd.

“I do not know the exact reason behind the fans’ behaviour, but it might have something to do with the presence of Palmeiras, Corinthians and Sao Paulo supporters in the crowd.

“But I repeat, they should be supporting the team rather than booing players from rival teams.”

As the first 45 minutes drew to a close there were also chants of “Adeus Mano” (Goodbye Mano) from the 50,000 home fans, suggesting the Brazil coach’s time in charge could be coming to an end.

Menezes’ side will now travel to Recife for a friendly with China on Monday.
