Former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan has offered hope to Brazilian side Internacional in their pursuit of him, saying he would be “excited” at a South America return.
Forlan, 33, has failed to settle at Inter Milan since a move to the club last summer and will be allowed to depart the San Siro this summer.
The striker told Uruguayan television station Tele Doce: “To play near Uruguay, after 14 years abroad, excites me.”
Internacional vice-president Lucian Davi earlier confirmed the club’s interest in bringing the Uruguayan international back to Brazil.
“If that information is true, we’ll be interested,” Internacional vice-president Lucian Davi told Lancenet.
“Internacional will have to be creative to know how to handle this kind of situation. If Forlan becomes a free agent, we will have to work something out regarding his wages.”
Forlan’s father, Pablo, is a popular figure in Brazil, having spent seven years in the country with São Paulo and Cruzeiro.
