In just his third appearance for the Tricolor, Wagner was given his marching orders from Paraguayan referee Antonio Arias for kicking out at Nicolas Aguirre in Tuesday"s game.

As a result, the 27-year-old will miss Fluminense"s next Libertadores fixture in Group 4, against Boca Juniors at the Bombonera.

"Unfortunately we played against an opponent and the referee. I don"t like to put blame on the referee, but in the first 30 minutes of the game it was just Fluminense. We played the ball with intelligence and were only concerned with our game," Wagner told Globoesporte.

"But then he [the referee] began to reverse many fouls and our patience was undermined. Fred was getting fouled the whole game and only a few of the fouls were given. This left our players feeling irritated.

"In the sending off, I wanted to take the free-kick quickly, but an Argentinian put his foot in front of the ball. I ended up kicking the sole of his boot and then one of them pushed me from nowhere."
