Goals from Lucas Moura and Luis Fabiano were enough for São Paulo to see off a stubborn São Caetano 2-1 on Saturday, with the visitors having equalised in the first-half. However, Luis Fabiano picked up an injury in the process to somewhat sour the win. Read more here
Also in action on Saturday were Portuguesa who were looking for their first win of the season against bottom placed Guaratinguetá. Goals from Henrique and Marcelo Cordeiro turned out to be enough for the Lusa, not until after they had been shocked by the visitor’s early lead however.
On Sunday, a 1-0 victory for Corinthians over Linense was enough to maintain their 100% record. Emerson Sheik was the scorer for the Timão, as their first-choice eleven struggled against their lowly opponents.
Palmeiras were next up, away at Catanduvense, and only emerged with a draw secured in the final few minutes by substitute Fernandão. What was a first-choice available eleven for Palmeiras performed poorly and striker Ricardo Bueno’s profligacy in particular will be a concern.
Next up were Santos, who played their ‘B Team’ in a 1-1 draw away at Paulista, who featured former-Santista Rychely in their ranks. Paulista had taken the lead, but with just fifteen minutes to go Santos equalised thanks to Alan Kardec’s fourth goal in three Paulistão games.
Finally, goals from William Magrão, João Paulo and Renato Cajá gave Ponte Preta an impressive 3-1 away win at Mogi Mirim on Sunday night. The Série A newboys gave the away fans some fine football to cheer as they dismissed their opponents with ease.
