The goalkeeper had a meeting with members of the Palmeiras board on Wednesday evening to announce his retirement.

”We just had a meeting with Marcos now, and he’s officially hung up his boots,” Sampaio said.

”He said he would think hard during his vacations, he spoke with his family members and decided it was the right time to retire and we magnify the person, what he represented and still represents for the institution.”

Marcos spent his entire playing career at Palmeiras and racked up 29 caps for Brazil.

The 38-year olds final game for the Verdão was against Avai on September 17th 2011.
