The two sides have been heavily linked with the Santos youngster in the past six months, but are now both planning to return for the player after the conclusion of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Neither side are willing to match the player’s buy-out clause of €45 million, but given the player’s recent injury woes, Santos may consider cashing in on the player who has yet to sign a new deal at the club.

Santos President Luis Alvaro Ribeiro has spoken in recent times of Ganso’s commitment to a new contract in January and that the player wishes to stay at the Vila Belmiro for the club’s centenary in 2012. But, it is well-known that the player is attracted by a European move.

Ganso injured his left-hamstring in Brazil’s 1-0 victory over Ghana last month and is expected to return to training next week. But, given it is already the player’s third extended injury absence in 18 months, there are already doubters about his viability as a big-money signing.
