The £1.8million (R$5 million) a-year contract between Santos and the Post Office and Bank of Brazil, would see Neymar’s salary reach previously unattainable levels for a domestically-based Brazilian player.

Neymar already has six long-term sponsorship agreements in place, with Nike, Lupo, Tenys Pé Baruel, Nextel, Red Bull and Panasonic.

Whilst, the remarkable fact about the latest deal is that although negotiated by his club Santos, Neymar will pocket 70% of the money, with Santos picking up the rest.

Santos are working hard on initiatives to give their much sought-after number 11 a ‘European wage’ and the money keeps rolling in.

Just recently, for example, Neymar pocketed £100,000 (R$280,000) to appear on the cover of the latest Pro Evolution soccer game, with Santos taking a further £45,000 (R$120,000).

It all means that Neymar will now be receiving £600,000 a month to stay at Santos, with the club paying just over a sixth of his earnings (approx. £110,000).

With the Paulista state set to record a massive TV deal windfall over the next few years, these deals allow them to retain Neymar and keep the rest of the squad competitive.
