Leandro has come from obscurity over the past twelve months and now represents the latest in a long line of star Grêmio youth products.

Despite an outstanding 2011 season, Leandro remains grounded about what he must do to be successful in the game.

“Everything that I have experienced in this short time will help me a lot. But, if older people can continue to learn, who am I to say that I know everything?

“Already, Neymar has experience representing the national team and has won a Libertadores. I’m working hard to reach this level.”

Leandro already bares a physical resemblance to the young Santos superstar, but does not try to hide his admiration for the player just one year his senior.

“I’m working hard to be able to play alongside Neymar one day. I also like to play with speed from the flanks, so i see my game as quite similar to his.”

With London 2012 just a year away, Leandro must work hard to emulate his idol and acheive his dream of lining up next to Neymar. The Pan-American games and his first appearances for the Under-20 side are just the first steps along this road.

However, there is one respect in which he will not look to copy the Barcelona and Real Madrid target any more, after Neymar announced the mohawk will soon be no more.

Neymar is the idol of Brazil and he is my inspiration. He may get rid of the mohawk, but I will not. This is now my style.”

Leandro certainly has the talent to get to the top, but it is pleasing to see such a positive attitude from a player just eighteen years old.
