“I cried many times," he told the club"s in-house TV station. “I did not understand. I always lived within the constraints of an athlete"s lifestyle, eating good food and sleeping early.

“Things were not going well physically and I took it badly. I was a robot."

Kaká spoke of his time training in isolation whilst the team prepared for matches, but the star insisted he was always motivated to return, with the prize of winning at Real Madrid keeping him going during the tough periods.

“In the first year I had an issue with my pelvis, then in the second year it was my knee.

“It was tough psychologically, but my motivation was to win."

“The president asked me what my problem was at Real Madrid, I said it was me. What had been dynamic and normal was now very mechanical, I was a predictable player."

Kaká spoke of his debt of gratitude to the fans who have shown patience through all his issues, but was also quick to praise José Mourinho for his help during the tough periods.

I can only speak good of him. I was a player with responsibility who was not doing well, I could have been sold! But he ended up helping me."

“There were [training] sessions that were disasterous, but this was my problem, not his.

“He helped me and stood by me. You need to know what to say in these situations and he knows very well."
