The Brazil international felt the twinge in his thigh during the second half of Santos’ encounter with Grêmio this midweek and speaking to reporters confirmed his injury.
“There is no chance. I will do tests this afternoon, but I know myself, there is no chance,’ confirmed the former Shakhtar man.
“It saddens me to be out the derby, but I will come back better.”
Elano has had four periods of injury absence this season and has struggled to get any momentum together between the disruptions.
“Unfortunately things have not gone well for me,” Elano stated, in somewhat of an understatement.
“I’m sad. But, I did not hide from this bad streak and I just want to be on the pitch playing.”
