Maicon was linked with a move to the Bernabeu and a reunion with former Inter manager Jose Mourinho last summer, but in the end no deal materialised. Now his agent, Antonio Caliendo, says the transfer may be back on, with Real including out-of-favour midfielder Kaka as a bargaining chip.

Speaking to Goal.com, Caliendo said: “I would not say this is just fantasy football. This could be a real idea. We are after all talking about two great players. This is not an impossible idea. I have not planned a trip to Madrid; I’m just waiting here at home. They can call me whenever my time has come to get involved.”

Meanwhile, the player himself has also been talking to the media, and has spoken of his admiration for the talents of Neymar, stating that he has found it difficult to mark him in training. “Marking Neymar is difficult,” he said. “And because we’re on the same side in matches, we can’t go in hard on him during training.

“We can’t make do without him,” he continued. “The boy is smooth. I’ve already watched a number of his games for Santos. We are all aware of his quality. He is a young player who will still learn a lot. At his age he is already showing that he is a great player.”

Both Maicon and Neymar are expected to play against Romania tomorrow in the final friendly before Mano Menezes announces his Copa America squad. Barring injury, Neymar is certain to be on the list, while Maicon is also very likely to be included as back-up to Dani Alves.
