The Libra clubs came together and decided, after much discussion, to accept an impressive offer from Rede Globo. They’re looking at R$1.3 billion to keep the conversation going about the TV rights for Brazil’s Series A championship from 2025 to 2029. This agreement wasn’t made lightly; it was the result of a detailed meeting that happened this Wednesday.

“In our meeting, we took a good, hard look at a variety of paths we could take,” said Julio Casares, the president of São Paulo, with a tone of optimism. “And after much deliberation, we’ve decided to move forward with Rede Globo. They’ve been with us for the long haul, a true ally in the world of Brazilian football. We’re already deep into discussions with them.”

Which clubs make up LIBRA clubs?

The clubs that make up Libra, as mentioned, include a diverse group from Brazil’s national football scene. These clubs are:

– ABC
– Atlético-MG
– Bahia
– Corinthians
– Flamengo
– Grêmio
– Guarani
– Ituano
– Mirassol
– Novorizontino
– Palmeiras
– Paysandu
– Ponte Preta
– Red Bull Bragantino
– Sampaio Corrêa
– Santos
– São Paulo
– Vitória

These teams represent a mix of some of Brazil’s most successful and popular football clubs, along with others that hold significant regional importance.

Bruno Muzzi, the CEO of Atlético-MG, laid out their grand vision: “Our main goal? To craft a league like no other in Brazil. We’re talking about bringing together the top 40 clubs from the first two divisions.” He paused, then continued, “We believe the path we’re choosing will lead us there. The terms we’ve been negotiating are pointing us in the right direction.”

The offer on the table from the broadcaster was something to behold. Just last week, it was presented to Libra’s technical council and won over the clubs, setting the stage for Wednesday’s pivotal meeting to ink the deal.
