One of the highlights of the 2015/16 European season, Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder Alex Teixeira was present at his former club’s stadium on Sunday.
Alex Teixeira returned to the place where he took his first steps in football, and watched Vasco da Gama’s opening game of the Campeonato Carioca. The 26-year-old was received by president Eurico Miranda in his office and then followed the club’s 4-1 victory next to director general of the youth categories, Álvaro Miranda, and football supervisor, Nílson Gonçalves. Teixeira said: “It’s always nice to return and receive the love of this wonderful crowd, they’ve always welcomed me very well. Today I was very well received by all. I had the opportunity to meet president Eurico Miranda again; we recalled the old days. I came here when I was just seven years old, and studied at the Colégio Vasco da Gama. It was exciting to once again meet up with the people who’ve been part of my growth here.”
Alex Teixeira said goodbye to Vasco in early 2010, a few months after shining for the Brazilian national team in the U20 World Cup.
