Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has praised Barcelona forward Neymar Junior amidst transfer rumours suggesting that Madrid are ready to raid their bitter rivals for the Brazilian’s signature. Neymar’s deal with Barca runs until 2017 and he has yet to agree an extension, which has created a lot of innuendo.

Manchester United have constantly been linked with the Seleção captain, with the player himself admitting that they approached him last summer. Over recent weeks, rumours have begun to circulate that Madrid’s interest has been piqued, in what would surely be the most controversial transfer since Luis Figo moved between the two clubs in 2000.

Ramos told Spanish publication Manda Pelotas, “Neymar is a great player who can make the difference. Football is unpredictable and there will always be transfer rumours. But the one thing you will never see is Sergio Ramos joining Barcelona!”

Neymar and his father and agent Neymar Senior will stand trial for tax evasion charges this week and the player has intimated that he will not discuss a new deal with his current club until the case has been heard and the verdict delivered. He and his father risk up to five years in prison if found guilty of the charges.
