Palmeiras are looking for a midfielder to be their key weapon in the 2016 Copa Libertadores campaign, and went all in for Santos playmaker Lucas Lima.
According to Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola, Santos have rejected an official proposal from Palmeiras for Lucas Lima. Lucas Lima’s agent, Wagner Ribeiro, was present at the Vila Belmiro on Tuesday afternoon to present the offer to Santos president Modesto Roma. Lucas Lima was one of the main highlights in Brazilian football last season, with La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona keeping an eye on the player. The information was confirmed by Globo Esporte.
Santos president was infuriated at the possibility of selling his star player to a rival team, and assures that there’s no chance of doing business. Palmeiras were counting on investment group Doyen as they own majority of the player’s economic rights, and hence would only have to pay for the 10% share owned by Santos. The Verdão were ready to double Lucas’ current monthly salary of €70,000 and the 25-year-old was impressed with the values offered. The business was practically impossible as Palmeiras need their rival’s approval to complete any deal.
