Cruzeiro director of football Valdir Barbosa insists the club have identified three positions that need strengthening ahead of the new season.

With A Raposa having already secured three signings for 2013 in the shape of Goiás full-back Egídio, Vitória midfielder Uelliton and, notably, Brazil international playmaker Diego Souza, the club are close to finalising their plans for the new year.

“Right now, we know that Cruzeiro don’t need much,” Barbosa told Lancenet. “We need a top centre-back, another good defender for the composition of the squad. Another player is a central-midfielder who is good at carrying the ball out.”

The Minas Gerais side enjoyed a quiet 2012 season after financial difficulties the previous year, but appear to have put themselves back on a sound financial footing under new president Gilvan Tavares.

Over the past couple of weeks, the club have also seen off interest from Santos and São Paulo for Argentine attacking midfielder Walter Montillo—for the time being at least—as the club’s squad for 2013 begins to take shape.
